There was a good run there for a while in the late 80’s, early 90’s. So many good folks sharing words. If there’s anyone who was overlooked; please forgive. And please let us know, we’ll make it right.
Here follows a list of sorts, some places that published Charlie Mehrhoff.
The Signal edited and published by David Chorlton and Joan Silva. And Darrin Daniel’s Spike out of Eugene, OR. There was Steve Richmond’s Moxie. There was Paul Kremsreiter and Michael Hettinger weighing in with those two back to back issues of Lightning and Ash. The University of Georgia coming out with Wild Song: poems of the natural world (edited by John Daniel) in ’98. Harper Collins coming out with Earth Prayers in ’91 and then Prayers for a Thousand Years in ’99 - both these books used Charlie Mehrhoff poems, they were edited by Elizabeth Roberts and Elias Amidon with special thanks to Joe Richey. Bijou Le Tord selected one of Charlie’s pieces for her stellar offering Peace on Earth, Doubleday ’92.
And there was Anatomy Raw. basura. Dan River Anthology. Dog River Review. Exquisite Corpse. Fennel Stalk. Heaven Bone. High Country News. the howling mantra. Infinite Degree of Freedom. Japan Environmental Monitor. L7. La Selva Subterranean.
Lilliput Review (Don Wentworth, humble editor extradionaire). The Lithic Review. Nexus (Wright State University), The Other Side, Paper Radio. Petroglyph (Utah State). Poet News (Sacremento, California). Printed Matter. The Redneck Review of Literature. Rhododendron. Rocky Mountain Arsenal of the Arts. Sheila-Na-Gig. Slack. Slipstream. smiling dog. Stick. The Sun. The Tule Review. Wilderness.
Phyllis Walsh at hummingbird (Richland Center, WI) and Greg Joly at Bull Thistle (Jamaica, VT) have shown strong publication/exquisite printing support.
Andrew Koch (aka Henry Iblis) and Ian Christopher Hooper (aka Roy Allahades) have been there publishing Charlie’s words since the beginning, first with their infamous Thieves Press and later with Zacatecas Review.
Darrin Daniel continued to erupt as a publishing/editing force. His former Spike railroading into Cityful Press, and then his editing of the 2001 on-line issue of For Immediate Release. Darrin always made sure that Charlie’s words found a good home.
And last and most holy: Cid Corman. A postcard, written in Cid’s hand, arriving from Japan just after the massive heart attack lofted Cid into the coma from which he was never to wake and write again. The postcard joyfully spoke of the resurrection of Origin, telling Charlie to get poems ready to feature. In 2006 Bob Arnold will be honoring Cid Corman by running the final four issues of Origin through Longhouse. Charlie’s words will feature in the second issue.
